Tips To Stay On Track Through The Holiday Season

Many of you have started your health and fitness journey already. Well before the holiday season has even begun. And I know the last thing you want to do is get this far just to go backwards again during the holidays. There are some ways that you can stay on track to help you continue your progress, so your New Years Resolution isn't to lose all the weight you gained from the holidays.

Tip #1: Prepare Your Mind
Many of us hear the word Thanksgiving and we think of the biggest dinner imaginable along with family and friends. Once we think about all the food, our goals go out the window and we indulge until we unbutton our pants and it's too late. But, if you make a plan and think about all the foods you want to eat, it is possible to eat them within your nutritional parameters. Which brings me to the next tip.

Tip #2: Log Your Food Before You Eat It
Now that you are mentally prepared that you will indulge within reason, you need to log your food that you want to eat. This will help you figure out your portion size that you can have of each food without going overboard. It's unrealistic to say you won't eat something, because that will just make you want it more and throw in the towel. But if you log it, then you will be able to see your carb, protein, and fat intake.

Tip #3: Stay Within Your Calorie Goal
If you're going to blow your macros for a day, at least stay within your calorie range. This will help you get back to your normal routine once the day is over. Also, make sure you check to see what your allotted calories should be. You may be eating less than you are actually allowed to eat.

Tip #4: Tell Your Family About Your Successes Throughout Your Journey So Far
Don't keep your progress to yourself and don't be ashamed of it or feel like your gloating. Sharing that information with friends and family not only give you encouraging feedback, hopefully, but also remind yourself why your on this journey in the first place and will help you stay on track even with all the delicious goodies around.

Tip #5: Give Away The Left Overs
You can't eat what you don't have in the house. Enjoy the holiday, but keep it to a one day event. I'm sure you'll have lots of left overs and will want to continue eating until they are all gone. If that is the case, create healthier meals with each item. You don't need to eat all the unhealthy things at once. Enjoy a piece of pie after a healthy dinner. Make a Turkey salad. Spread out the unhealthy foods.

Tip #6: Make An Achievable Goal After Each Holiday
We all have a bigger goal. You may want to lose 30 lbs or some big number. But between Thanksgiving and Christmas, you have about a month. A healthy weight-loss is 1-2lbs per week. So aim to lose 4-8 more pounds by Christmas. Having an achievable goal will help you stay focused and get you motivated to get back on track. If you stay focused you might even be able to lose 10lbs by the New Year rather than gain 10lbs.
