How To Get a Serving of Veggies Into Every Meal

Experts say that you need to get 10 servings of fruit and vegetables a day, but how in the world is that possible? Check out these 5 tips to help you accomplish this crazy healthy eating tip.

Let's face it! Sometimes vegetables are not the most appealing thing to add to our meals when there are starchy carbs and even fruits available. But, everyone knows they should eat more veggies right?! It's just easier said than done. So let me share a variety of ways that you can prepare your veggies, so you can actually eat the recommended 2 servings of veggies per meal.

1 serving of veggies = 1 fist of vegetables

FYI: I have experienced that more people tend to choose more fruit when trying to eat healthy. Not that this is a bad thing, but fruit also has a higher calorie count, so it is possible to eat too much and not hit your weight goals. Veggies on the other hand are packed with micronutrients and vitamins and are quite low on the calorie count, so even though fruits are good, you want to aim for more servings of veggies throughout the day.

Tip #1: Chop Your Veggies!

I have one of those veggie choppers to make it easy.

Here are some great ideas for your chopped veggies:
1. Chop them up and add them to scrambled eggs or make an omelet.
2. Chop them small and add them to a meatloaf or hamburgers
3. Chop them up and garnish a salad
4. Use chopped veggies to top off a taco, or chicken wrap
Blended Veggies

Tip #2: Blend Your Veggies!

Do you have a blender? Try Blending your Veggies! You can drink your serving this way!

Here are some great ideas for chopped veggies:
1. Add Spinach or other leafy greens to your Protein Shake along with a serving of fruit
2. You can even try the juicing method and juice your's not just for fruit.

This is a great snack option for meal # 2 or 4.
Saute Veggies

Tip #3: Sauté Your Veggies!

Sautéing those veggies can either add a whole other veggie option or just add a little extra to a meal.

1. Add sautéd veggies over pasta
2. Create a side of sautéd veggies.
3. Garnish your protein with sautéd veggies.
Fresh Veggies

Tip #4: Keep Your Veggies Fresh!

Don't forget about the crunchy fresh option!

Fresh veggies make a great snack option for busy people who need to munch on something in the car. They are also a hit with most kids.

You can dip your veggies in some hummus or just eat them plain!

*If you don't like them fresh, you can steam them lightly so they aren't as crunchy, but not soggy either. I like to steam mine in my rice cooker attachment.
Grilled Veggies

Tip #5: Grill or Bake Your Veggies!

The weather is heating up and more and more people are out grilling and attending barbecues.

Be the person who brings grilled veggie kabobs, so you are sure to have a veggie option at your gathering.

Grilling or baking your veggies just adds another variety of options for you to spice up your meals and keep them healthy!
I hope these different ways and ideas just opened up a ton of possibilities for you and your meals. If you switch up the vegetable types and the ways in which you cook them, there is no need for you to eat the same thing every day and get stuck in that "diet" mindset of not being able to eat anything fun.
